About Reeves of Wem

Reeves of Wem is a family-run timber merchant on the edge of Wem in Shropshire – and the largest independent timber merchant in the county. We’ve been serving farmers, builders, tradespeople and homeowners since 1980.

Our story

The business was founded in 1980 by Graham and Pat Reeves – former dairy farmers and cattle dealers who diversified, starting modestly by selling railway sleepers. Over four decades it has grown into the county’s largest independent timber merchant, supplying major outlets such as Travis Perkins and Jewson alongside farmers, trade and the public. We manufacture fencing panels on-site and run our own fleet of lorries delivering timber across the UK.

In 2015, son Will Reeves returned to Shropshire – after a career as a merchant navy engineer and then a commercial diver working in oceans around the world – to join the family firm. He’s brought fresh energy and ideas while keeping the traditional, personal service the family has always been known for.

A family business, a personal service

We’re still proudly family-run. When you call Reeves of Wem you talk to people who genuinely know timber and are happy to help you get exactly what you need – no call centres, no fuss, just honest advice and a well-stocked yard. Pick up the phone and have a chat.

Supporting our community

BBC DIY SOS

In March 2015 we were proud to help the BBC’s DIY SOS team and a local Telford family, supplying railway sleepers and timber products so the family could adapt their home. Their 11-year-old son, Matthew, had been diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer, and significant changes were needed for him to return home from hospital. We wished Matthew and his family well.

Hope House Children’s Hospices

Hope House provides vital palliative care for children, young adults and their families. During the 2020 pandemic – income down, PPE costs up – we were glad to play our part, and were honoured to receive the Hope House 2020 Champion badge. “We are a local family business and happy that we were able to support Hope House during the pandemic.” – Graham Reeves, Director.
